Çine Region

Çine is a town and a district of Aydın Province, Turkey. It is located in the south-west of Turkey. It is surrounded by the provinces of MuÄŸla to the south, BozdoÄŸan to yhe east, Yenipazar to the northeast and Karpuzlu and Koçarlı to the west. It is 38 km. for from the centrum of Aydın.

In ancient periods, Çine Province comprised part of Caria, Ionia, Bizans. Then it was captured by MenteÅŸoÄŸulları. In 1426, it was captured by Ottomans. It was first named "Kıroba".

Fattening and natural water provides the source of living for Çine. After Tanzimat Reform movement, Çine became a town of Aydın Province. Its economy is bounded to agriculture, forestry and fattening. Agricultural production densely takes place in Akçoova and Çine Provinces.

Çine is the pioneer of cotton, olive and tobacco raising in Turkey. Olive oil factories and mines are a few important industrial firms.
